My5: Dom Kane’s favourite 5

Dom Kane’s favourite contest entries
2009 was another great year for Moog Audio endorsed Artist, Producer and Audio Engineer Dom Kane. “This was an extraordinary year for me”, said Dom in his recent interview with The AudioAcademy. “Remixing for Global Underground, patch-designing for Deadmau5 and creating a loop bank that debuted at number one for 6 weeks on LoopMasters were just some of the highlights.” Dom was kind enough to have a listen to all of the contest entries. Here are his five favorite:
Jimmy Vallance – Stay In Touch
Seems to me like Canada is starting to bubble up with fresh new talent these days. “Stay In Touch” by Jimmy Vallance, is a throbbing underground House music track with fantastic strength. Jimmy has used a really broad spectrum of frequencies across the board here, from the deep and sustained kick-drums, to the rich aesthetic of the rolling stabs, all the way up to some accurately placed ‘live’ percussion at the top end.
I really like the placing of the vocal lines in this track, where not only do they sit well in the mix, but also make for some exciting changes when the breakdown comes to a climax. One of the things that impresses me the most about this production though, is the bassline. It’s so subtle and smooth just sat there gathering momentum in the centre of the mix-down, so much so, that it almost goes unnoticed when listening to the overall track. However, it is actually the weight that carries the main bulk of the track through its paces like an unsung hero just doing its job in the background!
Be sure to connect with Dom on Facebook, to check out his contest entry Sweet & Low, or just stop by and say hello. If that’s not enough, you can find out more about Dom here:
