Porter Robinson + LateNites+ The Toronto Collective

Barely legal, just the way we like ‘em.
18 year old Porter Robinson (that’s right… 18) has spent the last year bringing down Thor’s god*mn hammer on the dancefloor.
I’m On Fire
About a year ago Porter Robinson exploded onto the scene with the smash “Say My Name” that caused drunken clubbers, house party DJs and industry giants alike to do just that. It went instantly to #1 on Beatport’s Electro-House chart, and he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down since. He’s received props from such heavy hitters as Tiesto, Moby, The Crystal Method, David Guetta, Rob Swire (of Pendulum), Armand van Helden… you get the idea. Not bad for a kid from Chapel Hill, North Carolina that’s not even old enough to go to the clubs that he’s been destroying dancefloors at. That’s right. Porter Robinson is only 18.
Hello
Underage Drinking? Yeah, We’ve All Done It
Don’t let his age fool you though, if you’re heard of any of this tracks (by now you should be at his Soundcloud page, playing his tracks as loud as your system allows) you’ll know he’s got a sound beyond his years. How did he come so far in such a short time? How does a kid that grew up as far as you can from the electro music scene get to touring internationally with some of today’s biggest names?
Wildcat
The Road To The Present
Let’s go back in time about 5 years. Having started producing at 13, he started with Sony’s ACID trying to emulate the blips coming out of his video game console. Eventually he moved on to Image-Line’s FL Studio and quickly fell in love. Even though the first tunes that came from that love affair were some euro style hard dance tracks that only appeals to German funboys, he got a bit of recognition under the alias Ekowraith. After retiring that project he focused on electro house full time.
Let’s Go!
Validation
Jumping forward to last year he’s dropped such bangers as “I’m On Fire”, “Hello” (collaborating with Lazy Rich & Sue Cho), and most recently “The Wildcat”. He’s done official remixes for Spencer & Hill (“Less Go!” featuring Lil Jon on Bazooka Records) and Innerpartysystem (“American Trash” on Red Bull Records). He even breathed new life into the tired, overplayed “We No Speak Americano” with a kickass bootleg that has set fists pumping and panties dropping from BC to Toronto, and all the way to The Heinecken Dome in Miami at ULTRA 2011.
We No Speak Americano (Remix)
The Cruë (with umlaut)
He’s not showing any signs of slowing down either. Currently ripping it up with Skrillex, Tommy Lee (Motley Crue) and NERO on the “Project Blue Book” tour, Porter Robinson is definitely at the top of his game right now and is at the forefront of a scene that is (and he is) rapidly changing. His massive hooks, flowing trance breakdowns, dirty dubstep wobbles and gated electro synths transcend genres while redefining them at the same time. At the same time as maintaining above a 4.0 GPA. Keep killin it Porter.
Thursday Night, Tabu
So on Thursday night at Tabu when some smokeshow at the club squeals “omg I LOVE this song, who IS this!?” you won’t have to stand there fumbling for your iPhone or BlackBerry to Shazam it. Look well informed and close the deal.
